The seminar is being presented by James Urban for the USA.

James Urban, FASLA, ISA is a landscape architect with over 30 years of experience in the field of urban development and the planting of trees in difficult urban sites. Since 1982, he has been researching and testing ideas related to the installation of trees in the urban environment. This work has brought him into close association and collaboration with many leading arborists, soil scientists, and tree researchers. He is commonly known for his ability to translate and develop applications from researchers' raw materials into a context relevant to arborists and landscape architects.

This has included:
  •  The testing of new urban tree systems and planting concepts;
  •  Developing new approaches to landscape architectural design; and
  •  Providing intimate details and specifications in the area of urban trees in urban soils.
For these efforts James Urban has been honoured with many awards and has been invited to make presentations at numerous conferences in the United States, Canada and Europe. His work has been published in the Journal of Arboriculture and Landscape Architecture, and he is the recipient of the 2007 ASLA Medal of Excellence, the Professional Urban Forester Award from American Forest, a Merit Award from the ASLA for his research and has been made a Fellow in the ASLA in the area of contributions to the knowledge of the profession. He has taught courses and workshops at Harvard, the University of Virginia, and the University of Pennsylvania and at many other institutions in the United States, Canada, Europe and Singapore.
