Dear Board and Members,
At the Special Extraordinary General Meeting held at Ryde TAFE on 2nd July 2010 the NAAA membership voted unanimously in favour of the proposed merger and I now am able to welcome you to Arboriculture Australia Limited.
The merger of NAAA and Arboriculture Australia (formally ISAAC) will provide a consolidated organisation that will improve the level of service to the memberships whilst allowing us to have a greater impact on decision makers and will allow for improve public awareness. This merger will create a more efficient organisation that will continue to improve standards, provide education and legislation affecting our members along with maintaining the personalised service that we have all enjoyed from Merle.
As President of the National Arborists Association of Australia. I have guided the association through a period of significant change and achievement over the past 8 years. Having served on the Standards Australia Arboriculture Committee, the WorkCover NSW Tree Work Code of Practice working group and now enjoying another the role as the of local chair of the 2011 International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) conference and events committee, I look forward to bringing my experience to our newly formed Australian organization and view it is a great privilege to now be elected as President of Arboriculture Australia.
I would like to thank my fellow board members for the support, assistance and tireless efforts that they have put forward in our endeavors to achieve all we have and I look forward to continuing to enjoy there expertise as we build our new national organization and prepare to welcome the world of Arboriculture to Australia in 2011.

A Special Extraordinary General Meeting of the National Arborists Association Australia has been called for 2nd July 2010.
This meeting will be held at 7.00PM at Ryde TAFE, School of Horticulture in the Rainforest Room which is located in the Acacia Building, Level 1. Parking is available directly opposite the Acacia Building.

At the ISAAC Annual General Meeting that occurred on 17 May 2010 the members resolved to change ISAAC’s name to “Arboriculture Australia”, additionally it was resolved to adopt an amended constitution and agreement was given to proceed with the proposed merger with NAAA.

The Exotic Plant Pest "Uredo mangelii" (Myrtle Rust) has been detected in the Central Coast region of NSW.
Please view official the "Issue Alert" approved by the Consultative Committee on Emergency Plant Pests (CCEPP) for distribution across the Australian Nursery Industry.
You are encouraged to look out for signs of this disease (Myrtle Rust).

The following are some recent court cases involving arborculture.
On 28 October, Preston CJ gave a decision, Plath v Rawson [2009] NSWLEC 178, concerning a prosecution relating to land on the NSW north coast involving activities where, amongst other things, nearly 1,200 threatened or vulnerable species of rainforest plants were cut and poisoned [para 4].

In New South Wales, a licence under section 91 licence under the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 may also need to be obtained a from the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) if the tree is a threatened species or its part of a threatened population or ecological community.
