Mark Hartley performed his first tree transplant in 1971 and started working for his uncle's tree company and studied for his Tree Care Certificate in 1979. In 1986, after arguments about work quality, Mark started The Tree Doctor focussing on high quality tree work and in 1990 he bought out his uncle's business. Mark has been a winner in the Grand Awards of Excellence in Arboriculture 6 times for tree transplanting and once for the control and management of Phytophthora.

Mark is a founding member of the NAAA and has been a life member of the ISA since 1988. He has served on the board of the NAAA for 12 years including two years as president and has served and is serving on numerous boards and or committees of the ISA both in Australia and internationally.

He has been and continues to be active in campaigning for improved education, legislation and standards in arboriculture both in Australia and internationally. In the late 80's he campaigned against tree lopping, regularly writing to many councils and government departments and he co-produced the pruning standards that were presented to Standards Australia by the NAAA. His campaign for improved education, safety and licensing of the arboriculture industry have been ongoing since 1987 and his myriad of letters, phone calls and meetings are slowly brining results.

Mark says, "Tree are not given to us by our parents they are entrusted to us by our children. This responsibility should not be taken lightly and it calls for truly dedicated professionals with a passion for trees and for their future."

For the past 25 years Hugh Taylor has been involved in various different types of employment within the tree industry.  At first this involvement was with the installation of high and low ropes courses within Australia.

In the late 80’s he started a tree contracting company that specialised in commercial works and large scale difficult tree works.  In this operation he used helicopters and barges to assist in tree removals.

In 2002 Hugh sold that company and now has a Tree Consultancy Company that specialises in scientific arboricultural works.  His field of expertise is within the area of Tree Risk Management.  Hugh operates a Picus Sonic Tomograph and has the latest GPS Tree Mapping Systems.
